Cinemagraphs

Whilst exploring and experimneting with new techniques I have alos recognised the rise of moving images also known as Gifs?Cinemagraphs.

Cinemagraphs are still photographs which have just one small part moving that is repeated. these are normally in a animated Gif format.

Cinemagraphs by Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg

"We wanted to tell more of a story than a single still frame photograph but didn't want the high maintenance aspect of a video," they told Co.Design via email. Primarily, Beck shoots the photos and Burg applies the motion-graphics magic in what they describe as "a highly collaborative process" that can take several hours of manual editing in order to breathe the whisper of life into each image.

I created this Cinemagraph in Photoshop, Using my Canon 550D I recorded a short video for about a minute. I then imported it into photoshop and selected the segments which I needed.

The first and last frame have to be the same

Using the marquee tool I created a layer mask around the area of motion I wanted to keep, and repeat the process for each frame that followed.

I selected the time for each frame to play for 0.16 sec.
